Suggested steps to
forming an LAS
(Suggested organization format)
Some suggested steps to follow:
An organizing group of 2 or more persons should visit with
the BSA Scout Executive to inform him/her of their interest and desire to organize a
Lutheran Association or Committee.
- secure information on existing religious relationships committees or
groups in the council:
- are they part of a council relationships committee or are they self
operating committees reporting to a Council Relationships chairman?;
- who is the chairperson of the Counci Relationship committee?;
- would the council be receptive to the organization of such a group?;
- ask the Scout Executive to inform his staff about the plans.
- outline some of the early possible objectives of the group.
- if all seems favorable ask if the Scout Executive, if he or another
staff member, would be assigned to serve as an advisor to the group.
- set a target date for a informational gathering and possible
organization meeting. If this date is established the meeting should be publicized by:
a) notice in council newsletter, announcement at Roundtables, etc.
b) personal letter to key persons with current Lutheran Chartered units (COR Unit
Committee Chairperson, Pastor etc. plus other known scouters of Lutheran Faith).
c) personal contact (by phone, if no other way) with all persons invited.
THIS IS A MUST!
- follow suggested agenda for the
informational meeting.
Try to get an informal organization of chairpersons established and agree upon next
meeting date or activity.
Try to enlist the help of Council Board members, or other council Scouters who are
of Lutheran faith.
