Sample letter to those who may be interested in forming an LAS
(Sample letter to persons who may be interested in starting a LAS Association or Committee)Dear
We were pleased to learn that you have a possible interest in establishing a Lutheran Association of scouters group in your local BSA council. Your interest was reported to us by (note method or person who referred etc.)
The main mission of a local association is to support and encourage the efforts of those Lutheran churches who have chosen to use the BSA programs as a part of their youth ministry.
Other functions most often assumed by a local group, once they are organized and functioning, include:
1) work with the BSA Council on developing good church/Scouting relationships;
2) encourage additional Lutheran churches, or groups, to use the BSA programs as they fit in with their youth ministries;
3) work to help provide Protestant/Lutheran chaplains for camps and weekend events;
4) encourage youth to use the various Lutheran religious growth programs;
5) help Lutheran scouters understand their key role in providing the best possible leadership for the church programs;
6) consider special retreats and other gatherings as may support local Lutheran chartered units.
We have enclosed a suggested organizational format and possible meeting agenda plus current literature on Scouting in Lutheran churches.
Will you please keep me posted on your plans and progress? When you are ready to have your first meeting, we will try to have a representative of the national group attend in order to support your efforts.
Please let us know how we can be of additional help.
Sincerely,
